BIVEE Business Innovation for Enterprise Environment
BIVEE (Business Innovation for Enterprise Environment) aims to produce an ICT environment to assist all the players in a virtual, networked enterprise to concieve ideas, test, prove, implement and monitor process improvement and real buiness innovation. BIVEE aims to use a number of new business models and ICT solutions for supporting and fostering innovation, such as Open Innovation, crowd-sourcing, new forms of social networking, that we need to seize and transform into a systematic framework at the service of European organisations. Innovation largely remains a “brain intensive activity. Bivee aims at building a distributed, collaborative, knowledge-intensive framework, where innovative business models, novel management methods, and emerging ICT solutions will be integrated to the benefit of interoperable virtual enterprises.
The BIVEE project (Business Innovation in a Virtual Enterprise Environment) aims to develop a conceptual reference framework, a novel management method and a service-oriented ICT platform (called BIVEE) to enable Business Innovation in Virtual Factories and Enterprises. In particular, BIVEE addresses the sector of SMEs that represents the backbone of the European industrial system. There are a number of barriers that EU SMEs still face and which prevent them from making the leapfrog into the new emerging paradigms of collaborative business innovation. Among these barriers, we may cite the high fragmentation of the SMEs industrial fabric, the limited resources (such as financial, management expertise and competencies) available for SMEs, the lack of systematic connections with research centers, their naïve and unfocused approach to innovation.
However, there are a number of new business models and ICT solutions for supporting and fostering innovation in SMEs, such as Open Innovation, crowd-sourcing, new forms of social networking, that we need to seize and transform into a systematic framework at the service of European SMEs. Rethinking the value production space, in a way capable of integrating different ideas, people, cultures, is the only way Europe has to contrast the impetuous emergence of the BRICs economies that are continuously and rapidly progressing.
