Ambient Intelligence describes an environment in which people are involved and assisted by embedded interfaces, with intelligent and intuitive features, interconnected with common objects that make up an electronic environment that recognizes and responds to the presence of people involved in it anticipatory and invisibly. This technology has been called by the European Commission as the main future scenario for the XXI century.
This project proposes a scenario of Ambient Intelligence (AmI) focused on the space home, and based on the furniture as an interface able to identify and recognize user’s needs, adapting the environment to meet those needs. In an ideal context, it might even anticipate those needs.
Therefore, the ultimate goal of the project is to create a new category of “smart furniture”, evolved from domotic furniture, that can interact with other devices to anticipate user’s needs in certain types of environment.
The tangible results of the Project are oriented to development of prototypes demonstrators to allow, first, have a wide spread of the project in the industry, and secondly validation of ambient intelligent system designed.
In turn, this AmI system is composed of two elements that also are obtained as a result of the project:
- Several devices integrated into space home (furniture in this case), which are invisible to the user as to its use, to detect his actions voluntary or involuntary (voice, gestures, moods, movements…) and must have some computing capacity.
- A Decision makes system based on these behaviours.
To demonstrate the feasibility of the approach made, will be design and install a replica of a simulated house, where it can be demonstrate the operation of Ambient Intelligent System, both media and companies in the furniture industry and general public.
Initially this simulation will be used to validate the system developed considering the integration of all aspects:
- Devices building into the furniture.
- Communications system with domotic devices.
- Intelligence Ambient response system.
Once validated the integration of the devices identified and AmI control system, the demonstrator will be used mainly for diffusion. Once the appropriate diffusion will be used as test environment to develop the research line started in the field of AmI.
